It was a pretty big day today... at least for our backyard. We shoveled 8 cubic yards (yds^3) of compost into wheelbarrows and transported all of it to different sections of the back and side yards. We completed the job in 3.5 hours including lunch, ice-cream, and water breaks!! It was fairly intense through it all, but not nearly as bad as the 15 cubic yards, last year that was rather wet and terribly heavy, and took about 12 hours to move back. :-P We sure look forward to the 10 cubic yards of mulch tomorrow... (heavy sarcasm)... which (thank goodness) will be significantly lighter than the compost.
With that in mind, let me tell you what I'm thankful for! :-D
14. Family Teamwork - wow, if we didn't have that today, I'm sure we would have not gotten ANYTHING done! While there was the perfect number of tools, each one of us had to be sensitive as to when someone needed a break from their job and switch. The only things that didn't get a break were the wheelbarrows in fact. Really, pushing a wheelbarrow up a 45 degree hill, shoveling up and down a 50 degree hill, sweeping down a 50 degree hill can all get tiring when you do it for too long. Thankful there's love in my family and desire to get things done efficiently in one accord. :)
15. Water in liquid and solid state - so, it wasn't the typical, stuffy, hot summer of NC, but it was rather humid and but the work made your throat dry. And I like my water cold, so ice made it a perfect beverage :) . The cool liquid filling my mouth, reducing the heat, and overall, calming me down. Yummilicious!
16. Chocolate and the consequential hyperactivity - I get hyper eating new chocolates or sugars... and this time it was extremely convenient. I had a fudge ice-cream bar and within 2 minutes, my energy levels shot up and I did about 3 wheelbarrows full by myself... as in, "Hand's off everybody. I'm good to go for these. Get some extra breaks." It was really funny, about 5 minutes later, my youngest sis got her energy level spike; then about 15 minutes later, the middle one got her spike. How nice!
A little on the side - please pray that the mulch gets done quickly tomorrow and that it doesn't rain (on our yard at least). Dad's not going to be home to help much, so it's gonna be four ladies doing it. Thanks in advance :) .
Bless you all!
