Teaching and Learning

WARNING - really really long post!

TEACHING:
Yesterday was nerve-wracking and I really shouldn't have let it be so.  Teaching adults has not ever been something I looked forward to, especially if it's on a topic I'm not academically proficient in or am in no place to teach.  I.e. How to discipline your children.

Ummm... hello, I have no kids of my own?!  But I guess, since my sisters and I have been teaching Sunday School for over a year now and the parents see we have better "control" over them, they wanna know how we discipline them.  It's pretty much just be super strict, but with a godly perspective.  Of course, I had to drag it out to 8 pages (size 12, single-spaced) and only get to finish half of it in 1.5 hours.  If you want to see it, I can give you a link.

LEARNING:
MBA classes are starting in a week.  Here are the books I got in the mail:

Strength's Finder 2.0
by Tom Rath
http://sas-origin.onstreammedia.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/STRENGTHS/jfk-p_kot0ey1ro8fqrv3a.jpg
I've only looked at the first chapter of this book and it has a ton of qualities, I didn't think people would consider as qualities.  But I'm no psychiatrist or psychologist, so I'll let them delineate my strengths with their theories and see what comes of it.

Mastery
by George Leonard
http://successfulhealthcoach.com/wp-content/uploads//2009/12/Mastery1.jpg
This book almost seems like it was written by my mother... well, almost!  It's like she constructed the "keys", sold it to Mr. Leonard, and he took off with it and wrote a book!  Well, that's what the first 5 chapters look like.  I think I'm going to really enjoy it.

The E-Myth Revisited
by Michael Gerber
http://bradleyaharmon.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/the_e_myth_revisited.jpg
This is the most business-related book of the 5 and yet, it has a lot to do with the character, personality, drives, etc. of entrepreneurs so, this should be enlightening and inspiring.

The Goal
by Eliyahu Goldratt
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517FKM2TXFL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
In the first chapters... there is TOO MUCH CUSSING AND FILTHY TALK for my what-was-innocent, sheltered, etc. eyes and mind.  I actually sat there on the verge of tears, thinking of quitting this degree if I had to let all this trash enter my mind.  After 11 years of homeschool ambiance, this was a lot and I saw what I had been protected from.  I also felt a real moment of weakness and fear.  I didn't feel ready to battle all this.
Enter supportive and MOST BESTEST mother in the world.  She was totally willing to let me quit, if I felt necessary.
But she reminded me (translated from Chinese), "Haizi (Child), be strong.  You are living in this world, not heaven, directed by satan, not God.  It is full of sin and evil.  You can't avoid it.  This is just a peek into what it's like "outside".  With your missionary goals in mind, these are evils you will come in contact with often in your future.  Don't falter now, but rather, fill yourself with God's Word and reject any darkness satan may throw on you."
Of course, that put everything in perspective for me again.  It rekindled my desire to read God's Word, build a "holy fortress" in my mind (if you will), and not take the "darts" from satan to discourage me.  I love my Mama.

Ok, now for a book that motivates and yet calms me, since the author at least believes in God and knows the difference between righteousness and evil (sorta?).  I'm making a very broad generalization here.
War of Art
by Steven Pressfield

If I'm not totally off, this book is on "Resistance" which is anything that keeps you from living out the "calling" you have within you.  "Resistance" can come in many forms (some are scarily convicting).  I look most forward to finishing this book.

Oh - another thing.  One of the class suggestions was "morning pages" where you write 3 pages of "stream-of-consciousness" and long hand writing.  I'm going to double check with my advisor, but if I'm allowed to, I'll type it out and post it here everyday.  Get ready for some very various and jumbled cogitations!
EDIT: Here's a video of one of the Master Teachers talking about these "pages" and some other great points as well -

RANDOM (kudos to you if you have gotten this far):
I made a resolution last Monday to not eat junk food for 11 months.  Why 11 months?  Because that's when I turn 21 and I want to eat cake and ice-cream on my birthday.  Don't judge me.
This means no candy, sweets of any type like cake, ice-cream, frappucinos, cheese, peanut butter, jelly/jam, chips/greasy snacks, crackers, sweet beverages, etc.
I DO get dark chocolate (because in our house, a moderate amount of chocolate is not considered junk food, because of the antioxidants).  I also put honey/stevia in some of my grains.
This past week has been okay.  I accidentally ate tiny bites of junk food 3 times last week, but I stopped immediately.  It was really hard for 2 of the nights, since they had tiramisu cake and I'd never had it before and I really wanted to try it, but I'm rambling, so I'll hush after these next 2 sentences.  I'm really HAPPY that I didn't cut meat out of my diet, or else I would be SO STARVING AND FAMISHED RIGHT NOW without protein!!  I may do that another year, just not this year with the intense degree ahead of me.

Happy Monday!!

Internal Emotional Wearing-down

Where I've come from: I have been driven by fear and a desire to please people. I hate that. I thought I could live for my own values and beliefs... but I haven't been able to. Not until this past Sunday. I told my mother off... I was breaking down inside. I have wanted to die for over a year now. Everything seemed hopeless. Not so much for me, but for my purpose and effective work on planet earth. I saw no fruit. I could labor for the rest of my days to live and serve my God. And never ever see the results... and not that I need to see something... but because I knew that what I did WAS POINTLESS. I was doing nothing. And it was because in my mother's eyes, I would never be ready. I would never be enough. She thought she was protecting. She wasn't letting me grow. I can't do more if all you let me do is what is safe. ~CJ

Thankful Thursday XI

Aaaggghhh... I am so behind in the blogging world, like one of my friends says, " it's not even funny. " *sighs*  And I didn't get the chance to blog the Phriday Photos / Funnies - so I'll do a double one tomorrow :) . Anyways - what I'm thankful for this week: 30. BLOGS!!! - I'll admit it. When I first heard the word "blog", I thought the cyberworld couldn't get any sillier.  Well, way to go, CJ. Just join the silliness. Evidently the silliness has its advantages O.O . It's a place for me to rant, rave, and ramble, whether or not my readers want to see it.  It helps me organize my wordy thoughts.  And!! I can share what's been on my mind without having to know if people are looking at me strangely... hehe.  A more serious reason: I can share and read other's testimonies on how God is answering prayers: Answereth All !! *big smile* 31. 2 jobs - It's strange to say my piano teaching is a job, since I really enjoy telli...

Asis: Woah - I just swallowed a ton of food. Jsis: Most people do... Asis: I meant at ONE time!! ________________________________________________________ A 5yo boy from Sunday School comes up to me holding a toy train and says, "LOOK! I am a fixer train . I'm the train that takes broken trains on the track to the fixer factory ." ________________________________________________________ Here's an excerpt from Anne of the Island  that makes me laugh every time I read it: [Anne] "You won't say naughty words, or run away on Sundays, or tell falsehoods to cover up your sins?" "No. It doesn't pay," said Davy. "Well, Davy, just tell God you are sorry and ask Him to forgive you." "Have YOU forgiven me, Anne?" "Yes, dear." "Then," said Davy joyously, "I don't care much whether God does or not." "Davy!" "Oh -- I'll ask Him -- I'll ask Him," said Davy qu...
